Ethnography, which has been widely used in the humanities as a research method, has always played a crucial role in filmmaking too. For this masterclass we are pleased to present Director Alessandro Rossetto, experienced professor of documentary , who will share his perspective on documentary and fiction filmmaking along with methodological advices. During the seminar he will present excerpts from his latest and most known work, “Piccola Patria” (Small Homeland).

About the film:

In the midst of Italy's secessionist north-east (i.e. Liga Veneta, Lega Nord, who wished to separate northern Italy from the rest of the country for cultural and economic reasons), the turbulent adolescence of two girls leads to tragedy. 

 

About the Director:

Alessandro Rossetto (b. 1963) holds a degree in Anthropology from the University of Bologna, plus a specialization in Visual Anthropology and Documentary from the University Paris X - Nanterre. He has been a professor in ethnographic documentary at prestigious European ZeLIG Documentary School for the past 10 years. In 2010 the New York Documentary Film Festival dedicated a retrospective to his work.

Piccola Patria (Small Homeland) is his first feature length fiction film and was presented in competition at the Venice Film Festival.

 

The masterclass and the screening are part of Bellissima Italia programme.
